How can we get a story taken of this websight it's a story written by Frank Reyes. He wasn't even in the ambush and he's listed as a wannabee on a few different sights. This story is disrespect to all the guys that were there.

Thanks
Odis

Odis: Thank you for bringing this to my attention. Since 1995, fewer than a dozen stories have been removed from War-Stories.com, but removed they were. Here is how it works before I send an email to the author asking for an explanation for his story, I want to clarify your email:

Questions for you:

Questions to be sent to Frank Reyes:

Frank: From time-time, someone posts a story at War-Stories.com that is disputed by a reader as either incorrect in its representation of what happened, a stretch-of-the-truth, or totally false. I understand there are different points of view in every incident and allow for that by asking whomever challenging the story (if they were at that incident) to write his own version. At the same time, War-Stories does not knowingly post stories that are false or simply made-up. Please help me protect the integrity of War-Stories.com by responding to the following questions:

Frank, as you can see by the below email, a reader discredits your story posted at http://www.war-stories.com/reyes-ambush-charlie-co-1969-1970-1.asp as not being a true incident. Please respond concerning the following points in your story the reader disagrees with.

  • Do you have names/emails of anyone who can vouch for your version of the story? Are there points in the story that should be revised in order to avoid being considered an "embellishment" of facts?
  • Do you standby your story as is?
  • Is there some reason a reader might not agree with your account of the incident?
  • Please respond as to the posts at the following URL addresses:

Hi Don

I guess I will start by saying Frank was never a SGT. Almost always LT. Turnaby and an NCO walked point Frank hadn't been at LZ Nancy long enough to walk point for seven months. Barbara road started at the back gate Of LZ Nancy and there were no rice patties along the road. SPC 4 Zager was only hit once and that was with a 51 cal. in the head while taking cover under his jeep. PFC Quinn did jump up but was hit immediately in the face Mike Edmonds was the brother who crawled out to help Quinn and dragged his body back across the road to the dust off Edmonds was holding Quinn's head to keep it from falling apart. There was an ARVN APC that was hit blocking the rear of the convoy and this is what the reactionary force took over for cover with an M60. After the ambush was over we had a body detail a hole was dug with a loader and approximately 18 NVA were buried. When we got back to Nancy there was never a debriefing infact there was never any report filed on the ambush as far as the army is concerned it never happened.

I'm also sending a copy of this letter to some of the others who were involved in this ambush if you need anymore verification. Please keep our names confidential and remove them from this story.

I forgot to answer the wannabee questions: Yes these are two of the sights there have been more and some were removed. I don't know if you know Doug Sterner of Home of Heros web sight Doug was assigned to C. Co. 14th CEB in 1970 nicknam Gopher. Three years ago Doug and I exposed Frank on Thanksgiving day it was something we did not want to do but Frank would not take warning he would be exposed and he was. Doug and I didn't know that the SF web ring was also ready to come down on Frank. When I contacted Mary at POW network she had already done FOI on Frank.

I also have a copy of all awards givin after the ambush.

Thanks

Odis:

Please confirm “.51 cal” and not “.50 cal”. Understand that I was in the USAF as a K-9 handler and not that familiar with weapons other than the M-16 (1965-1966). Also, if one or two of the others with knowledge of Frank Reyes’ history email their point of view, especially concerning his post at War-Stories.com, that will help. I think your info is likely to prove out as correct. Please understand that it is necessary to give Frank Reyes an opportunity to either withdraw his story/photos or account for himself. It is not fair to just say that someone emailed and made an accusation and therefore everything he has will be deleted from War-Stories.com. You would not appreciate that were if you had a story posted, and would like to know the name of the person making the allegations. I don’t think it will come as a surprise to him, considering the URL addresses online.

Aas much as it hurt me, I read Frank's story from start-to-end. There's so much that never happened or just wasn't true. There was no rice pattys out there--there never was. Also, never anyone out there working or doing any thing -- that was a free fire zone. The whole part of the story as to where they were is all wrong. If Frank was where he says he was there was no way he could have seen Zager trying to talk on the raido. When infact John never had a chance to even reach for it or think about the raido before he was killed out right. Sgt.Chamberlain told me himself, when we met in a hospital in Japan -- he was leaving, I was just getting there. He stated John never knew what hit him. The Dozer was in front of the jeep, not behind it. It was hit with a RPG in the blade A Frame, stopping it in its tracks. The Oper. was blown off it annd landed between the dozer and jeep where he lay hurt but alive. No way could any one hear the raido in the jeep as it was riddled with holes. There was over 100 bullet holes in the driver's side of the jeep alone. Zager was shot all to pieces. The part about Sgt. Scott calling out TOC -- I don't think that took place. There was no debriefing at FSB Nancy after the fire fight, or anyplace ever that I know of.

Like Odis states, as far as the Dept of the Army is concerned, the battle never happened. Because of our poor chain of command reporting anything. True, 18 moreo less whole NVA dead were buried there ([I] have photos of Grave as proof). But it was thought that our unit and the drusters and Quad .50's killed over 150 NVA, but the bodies were so torn apart it wasn't possible to drag the bodies out to the pile. There was no Arty men there. They were standing by their guns on FSB Barbara unable to fire because the NVA was so close to our men. Some of the NVA was less then 50 feet away when they opened up on the convoy. Yes I was on my Radio (Shirley Koskela Sr.) talking to the company trying to get help.Yes we were taking fire and unable to help in the main battle area as we had big problems of our own with men down etcetras.

Odis You can send this to the Web Master if it will help read it over and proof read it as I can't spell. I can't read that dam story again. It's time it was buried forever. There's no need that any of us should have to keep having this shit opened up again and again with so much wrong in it or any time.
