Tribute to 2Lt. Leonard "Doug" Davis

Leonard Douglas Davis, Westpoint Class of 1965, was in 2nd grade when I started 1st grade. We went to small schools together until he graduated. He was a very intelligent, athletic guy, and well liked by all of those fortunate enough to have him touch their lives. After he left for the academy, I didn't see him again until Christmas break of his senior year. That was also the last time I saw Doug. He seemed wonderfully happy with his choice of a military career, and he knew that after graduation he would soon go to Vietnam. He graduated in 1965 and deployed to Nam in January, 1966.
Doug is never far from my thoughts...I don't think one week has gone by in the last 32 plus years without me remember some nice thing about Doug... that's nearly 12,000 thoughts about a friend who was so kind to my on my first day in first grade. I was scared to death to go to school, and Doug was nice to me...he was 7. I now have a 7 year old grandson and I was pregnant with Michael's dad when Doug died.
